Laser Lesson

Although Laser Hair Removal has been around for going on 20 years, it still carries an air of mystique as to how it works, why it works, and what to expect. Here are a few basics to get you educated and confident about the process.

Laser Basics:
Laser hair removal removal is widely practiced in dermatology & plastic surgery practices to provide clients with long-term reduction of growth. Multiple sessions are required, the number of which depends on various parameters, including the area of the body being treated, skin color, coarseness of hair, reason for hirsutism, and gender. Certain areas (notably men's faces) may require considerably more treatments to achieve desired results. Hair grows in several phases * anagen * telogen* catagen and laser can only affect the currently active growing hair follicles (early anagen), which is why several sessions are needed to kill hair in ALL phases of growth. This problem is countered by spacing appointments sufficiently so that inactive follicles will start to grow again. The shedding of the treated hairs takes about two to three weeks.

The "How" Basics:
A concentrated beam is aimed at the hair. The light is absorbed by the pigment. This absorbtion damages the follicle enough to slow future growth, eventually stopping it altogether.

What is the Difference?:
The biggest difference between how laser hair removal affects hair growth and any other hair removal method, is the hair follicle is actually deactivated with the laser. Once the hair follicle is suppressed, the hair will not grow back. Ultimately, saving you the time and hassle of having to continuously remove the hair when it grows back in.
