Wrinkles and folds associated with aging become apparent primarily through the breakdown of collagen. Sculptra Aesthetic works over several months to help the body replace lost collagen.
“Peels, Botox, Restylane, Juvederm and collagen injections—although great at reducing lines and wrinkles, do nothing to restore volume to sagging skin,” said Topham who was licensed as the first collagen injector in the state. So while Sculptra does not produce the instant gratification achieved with Restalyne and Juvederm, it makes up for it in its long term and permanently beneficial improvements in collagen replacement.
Made from poly-L-lactic acid, which has been safely used for the past 25 years in resorbable stitches, Sculptra®Aesthetic is biocompatible (does not harm the body) and biodegradable (able to be broken down by the body). This bio-friendly injectable has also been widely used in Europe for almost a decade for cosmetic treatment.

A treatment regimen of Sculptra Aesthetic is performed, on average, at three injection sessions over a few months to provide noticeable, long lasting results.
In a pivotal trial with Sculptra Aesthetic, swelling and tenderness were the most common adverse events reported (81%). Results from a recent study conducted for the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery and sanofi-aventis U.S. showed that both injectable users and women considering a medical anti-aging treatment preferred gradual results that last two years (75%) as opposed to immediate results that last one year (25%).
